Turkish agriculture pursues its modernization. It employs 45.8 % of the agricultural population and accounts for 15% of the GDP. These figures show the impoverishment of this social class.
The intensification of fights against the Kurds in 1994 led to the decline of wheat and beet productions. Today, the grain crops are still insufficient to cover the needs. An important agricultural project for the beginning of the next century should produce big changes in the Turkish agricultural production.
